About Me

I am a 40-something girl who is passionately and deeply in love with Jesus.
I became a Christian at a very young age and grew up in the church.
My dad pastored a Vineyard church when I was in my teens.
For 6 years, I served with Youth With a Mission, leading schools, discipling students, and teaching in the School of Biblical Studies.
I love the Bible!  I love to read it, study it, and teach it.

Although I swore I would never … I met and married Steve in 8 months.
We met at a very large singles group through mutual friends in January 1998.
We started dating in March, were engaged in May, and married in August.
Our first couple years of marriage were CrAzY hard!
I was 27, he was 28, and we were selfish and stubborn.
We have been married for 15 years.

I thought I would always be in missions, and I wouldn’t let kids slow me down.
Now, I’m a homeschooling mom of 4 kids, 11 and under.
I am committed to discipling my kids through education.
We use the classical model and are a part of Classical Conversations.
Yes, I have always homeschooled.  Yes, we have always used the classical model.
Yes, I plan on homeschooling all the way through high school.

I love missions!
After serving with YWAM for 6 years, Steve and I served with Campus Crusade for 7 years.
In January 2011, we started a non-profit Mavuno Market.
In January 2013, we started Passion for Orphans.
In the last 2 years, I’ve been in 4 countries on 3 continents.
I love Africa!  I love Tanzania.  I love Mavuno Village, the organization we partner with.
I still hope and pray for the day that God takes us into full-time missions.

A few things about me you probably don’t know.
My nickname is Lu.
I was born in Boulder, Colorado which, if you know anything about Boulder, explains my granola ways.
Steve proposed to me in a hot air balloon.
I was a barefoot bride.
All 4 of my kids were born naturally, 3 of whom were born at home.
I love to travel – and have been to 21 countries.
Since I married Steve, we have lived in 4 states and in 13 different houses.
We have been in our current house for almost 3 years!!!  Woo hoo!
